Director of Coaching - Rafe Mauran

Rafe Mauran joins RYSA as the Director of Coaching with extensive experience at the college, club, and high school levels.  Most recently he served as an assistant at Limestone College where he was involved in all parts of the Saints soccer program, including assisting with on the field instruction, game-day preparation, recruiting, scouting and travel. In 2008, the Saints recorded 17 wins and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament, advancing to the second round.
Prior to Limestone, Mauran spent three seasons as the lead assistant coach at Wofford College, helping the Terriers win the most games in the school’s Division I history in 2007.  In his time at Wofford, Mauran assisted in every aspect of the program, serving as the recruiting coordinator and camp director for the program. 
From 2005 - 2009, Mauran served as the Director of Goalkeeping at Carolina FC where he also coached the 93 and 97 Boys teams. In 2008, the 93 CFC Boys won the President’s Cup and advanced to the Region III Regional championship.
Mauran previously served as an assistant coach for Davidson College from 2003-2005, winning a Southern Conference Championship with the men’s team in 2003, and advancing to the tournament final in 2004. While with the Wildcats, he was involved with both the men’s and women’s programs overseeing the training sessions for the goalkeepers.   He also served as the assistant director of coaching for the North Mecklenburg Youth Soccer Association (NMYSA).
Mauran has also served as the Boys’ Soccer Coach at Franklin County High School (1998-1999), assistant men’s soccer coach at the University of the South (1999-2001), assistant men’s soccer coach at Springfield College (2001-2003), and as the soccer director at Camp Danbee (Summer 2003).
He earned his bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of the South (Sewanee) 1998 before completing his master’s work in psychology, with a concentration in mental health counseling, at Springfield College in 2003.

During his senior season at Sewanee, Mauran posted a 0.71 goals-against average to rank 17th nationally. Mauran was an All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree in 1998 and chosen as the league’s player of the week once each during his junior and senior campaigns.
He also holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
A Conyers native, Rafe is proud to return to his hometown to give back to the sport that he loves and the community that he remembers so fondly. Rafe and his wife, Jenni were married on May 10, 2008. They live with their children, Jackson (7) and Sophie (1).

Gregory Moss Brown

*Rockdale Youth Soccer Association announced the appointment of Gregory Moss-Brown as the Technical Director of the club. Moss-Brown will also coach the U11 academy boys team. He is currently the head coach at Oxford College at Emory University. Prior to coming to Oxford, Moss-Brown was the Head Men’s soccer coach at The State University of New York at Cobleskill.
*Moss-Brown was a two-time All-American for Hartwick College, located in Oneonta, NY, in 1984 and 1985 at the NCAA Division I level. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1986 and subsequently earned a Master of Science Degree in Physical Education from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY in 1991.
*He began a professional soccer career that saw him earn a spot on the Trinidad & Tobago National Team from 1988 to 1989. He followed that up with a stint with Amora FC of the Portuguese 2nd Division from 1989 to 1990 and Junventude De Evora FC, also of the Portuguese Second Division from 1990 to 1991.
*He was inducted into the Hartwick College’s Athletic Hall-of-Fame in 2000 while serving as the Associate Head Coach, a position he held from 1996-2002, and was awarded the school’s 2001 Millecan Award for Outstanding Dedication and Contributions to Hartwick College Soccer.
*He has previously served as head men’s coach at the collegiate level at NCAA Division II Eckerd University in St. Petersburg, FL in 2002 and 2003 leading the Tritons to a 10-26 overall record and NCAA Division III Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY in 1995.
*He currently holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Class "A" License, a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Premiere License.
*Greg lives with his three best girls in the world, his beautiful wife, Janice Moss-Brown a teacher in Newton County, and his two girls, AnnaGrace age 8 and MayaFaith age 4.

Michael Sabatelle

*As the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Emory (1988-2004) Sabatelle was a four-time University Athletic Association (UAA) Coach of the Year and posted a 212-85-32 record. He guided the Eagles to eight NCAA Division III national tournament appearances and four championships. In his last seven years the team was 98-22-17, a .777 winning percentage. In his final season, he led the team to a UAA Championship, the NCAA tournament and was named UAA Coach of the Year.
*Sabatelle recorded the 200th win of his Emory career with a 1-0 victory Sept. 4, 2004, against Mary Washington (Va.), then ranked 17th in the nation. He became the 15th women’s soccer coach in NCAA Division III history and the 37th in any NCAA division to reach the 200-win plateau for their career.
*At the end of his tenure at Emory, Sabatelle ranked 38th all-time among all NCAA coaches for career wins. Among active Division III coaches, he was 12th in career wins and 36th in career winning percentage.
*At Oxford, Sabatelle helped coach the 2006 women’s soccer team to their first-ever appearance the Final Four of the NJCAA Division III National Championship while also working as the Head Athletic Trainer. He has traveled with the Oxford team to Brazil and Spain and to Scotland, England, Wales and Australia with the Emory womens teams for pre-season training.
*Sabatelle earned his Master of Education degree from Georgia State University in Exercise Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from SUNY-Plattsburgh. Michael is a National Athletic Trainers Association certified athletic trainer (ATC), and a high school and collegiate soccer referee. He has refereed and coached in both the NCAA and NJCAA national championship tournaments.
*He holds a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" coaching license and has international coaching experience, assisting with the U.S. National youth boys’ soccer teams during competition in Trinidad and the former Soviet Union. Sabatelle was a longtime staff coach for the Georgia Olympic Development Program for girls and the coach of the Georgia Women’s Senior State Select Team.
*Sabatelle contributed his time to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America by coordinating its national ranking committee, All-America and Scholar-Athlete All-America selection committees. He is currently the National Chair of the NSCAA/adidas College Women Scholar All-America committee.
*During the summers, he was the director of the Emory girls soccer camps. He was owner/coach of the Atlanta Classics in the W-League, a national professional women’s soccer league. Sabatelle was honored as the W-League "Coach of the Year" in 1997 after leading the first-year club to the South Division title and the W-League national championship tournament. In 1999 he led the Classics to the W-League Final Four. He was the television spotter for the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA, the professional women’s soccer league and a spotter for FIFA during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Soccer competition.
*Most recently, Mike has served as the assistant head coach at the Galloway School in Atlanta, GA.

Recreational

All recreational coaches at RYSA are volunteers.  All recreational coaches are strongly encouraged to obtain a GYSA or USSF coaching license.  We have recreational coaches certified up to a USSF National D license.
